Tea

At the time that I was growing up in Trinidad, coffee houses were not popular, and I would be hard pressed to name even one place where people went to just relax with a cup of tea or coffee!

Even when I attended university in Toronto, and discovered the great Canadian love affair with timmy’s, I still thought the stuff was slightly revolting, although I did (and still do) love iced mochas!

My mom always said to me that at some point I will learn to enjoy a cup of tea… don’t you hate it how moms are always right?!

Turns out that I happen to love Tetley’s Chai! You see, although I may look like an authentic desi, I’m really not and as such I am not a huge fan of my mother-in-law’s a-little-too-spicy-chai, but the almost-authentic-chai by Tetley is perfect!

This morning, as I made breakfast for the kids, I put up a pot of tea as well, so as soon as I handed over breakfast and kids to my husband, I just sat in a folded chair in the kitchen and sipped my tea… And, you know what… I actually felt like those people in the commercials that have a sip and are magically taken to some peaceful, glorious place, far, far away from the reality of an insanely noisy household… Where I felt somewhat happier than my pre-first-sip self, when I just wanted to get back into bed and not see those little critters who believe that the littlest bit of natural light means it’s wake-up time!

Many thanks to the real Indians for Chai, and to Tetley for making it into an easy to use teabag!

Guidelines:
In a small pot, add in a tiny bit of water, and bring to a boil on high heat
Add in 1 teabag of Tetley Chai and 1 teabag of Orange Pekoe Tea
Put on medium heat and add in 1 cup of skim milk
Leave on for 5 minutes (adjust heat as required so that the milk does not burn)

Add sugar to taste
Serve and experience peace smile

Thoughts from Mona

ohh, if only i was a tea or coffee addict, i could do this. for the life of me i can drink neither. occasionally, i’ll have veyr light coffe, sugar and no milk with marie tea biscuits. i know. i’m a deprived soul.

a travel case or a baby bag sound right to me, i think that’s what i’ll end up packing – hopefully today or tomorrow. gotta buy one.

Mona, I’m really curious to know if you start having tea or coffee once you have the baby smile I only started after I had kids!

Maliha, really? That’s interesting. I guess we weren’t that colonized in Trinidad. smile
