Day 2, Week 5

Ummm, my desi friends, I am sorry about this.
Everyone else, Biryani… the EASY way! smile

Ingredients:

Shan Sindhi Biryani Mix
3/4 way cooked basmati rice
peeled shrimp
onions
garlic
tomatoes
plain yogurt
cilantro (if you don’t hate it)

Guidelines:

In a medium sized pot, on medium heat, add in crushed garlic and chopped onions into a little oil and saut for a few mins
Add in the Shan biryani mix and a little water, let cook for about 5 mins, add more water as needed so that the mixture does not burn
Add in the shirmp, then once the shrimp turns pink, add in the chopped tomatoes and cook for another few mins
Finally, add in the cooked rice and water if required, mix well, and cook until the rice is tender
Once it ready, you can add in yogurt, to taste

Note: The seasoning in the box already has enough salt and pepper, and we actually added pepper and it was TOO hot for some of us (husband and kids), so I added more rice and yogurt and they loved it! smile

The box would have directions on how much rice to make, but I just averaged it.

I thought it was YUMMY!! Very close to the real thing… to me at least smile

Thoughts from Mona UmIbrahim

that’s interesting that you put the yogurt last. i’m sure it’s good though smile i haven’t made biryani in a while – i have to be in an indian mood smile

Thoughts from shaz

Mona… this is the first time I attempted Biryani, so to be honest, I had no idea when the ideal time is to add the yogurt! But, it tasted pretty good! The instructions were too complicated in my opinion, so I did my own thing wink
