Beef 'Stir Fry' ish

by shaz on Monday, March 19, 2007 at 04:02 PM
read more about: Beef.

Day 1, Week 10

So… this is another first for me! It was good… and really fast.

Stir Fry is a fast-cooking Chinese technique.

This is a good vegetarian meal, if you don’t put the beef of course.

Ingredients:
Beef strips
mushrooms
radishes
bean sprouts
bok choi

VH teriyaki stir fry sauce
soy sauce
chilli pepper
oyster sauce

Guidelines:

In a wok on medium heat, add in the beef strips with a little olive oil
When half cooked, add in the mushrooms and the bean sprouts
Add in chili pepper, soy sauce, oyster sauce and teriyaki sauce to taste, and mix well

Once the mushrooms are cooked, add the radishes and bok choi, saut for a few minutes and remove from heat

Serve with Jasmine rice.

Assalaamu alaykum,

Just a heads-up: most teriyaki sauces have wine in them. Most people don’t know, so thought I’d mention it. If you’ve happened to find a brand without wine, please let me know. I love teriyaki!

The VH sauce that I used didn’t indicate that there was any wine in it… what should I be looking for?

Note to my readers, Muslims don’t consume alcohol, so it would not be good to have wine in it.

Brands like Kikkoman will list ‘wine’ as an ingredient. Others will say rice wine or mirin.

well, I don’t use Kikkoman because I learnt that there is alcohol in a lot of their products, but I have tasted their sauces and I prefer the VH ones better.

The ingredients are water, sugar, corn starch, vinegar, salt, dehydrated vegetables, caramel, natural flavor, seasonings, soy protein, corn syrup, citric acid, yeast extract, spices.

Alhamdulillah, I’m off to find myself some VH sauces!

Soy Vay Brand Veri Veri Teriyaki is Kosher, so no wine… it is REALLY tasty and you need NO other spices or sauces when stir-frying with it. I’ve seen it at Wal-mart supercenter and the specialty asian/chinese section of the Super/big grocery stores. It’s also available online at: http://www.soyvay.com/estore/display.php?RecordID=1034272355

good luck.
