Who controls the grandparents?

Grandma… my mom… usually baby-sits a lot for me… which is great… except for the influence on my kids…

My eldest son came running downstairs yesterday in total and complete fear… because apparently a snake was chasing him! He told us that he heard the “ssssssssss” and it followed him downstairs to the toilet, then the “ssssssssss” followed him upstairs…

My mom, who is an excellent caregiver to my kids… has a few irrational fears… one is of thunder, one is of small spaces, and yes, one is of snakes!! She was spending time alone with the preschooler when they encountered something that looked like a snake in the backyard…

This morning, he woke up and came running into our room… because he heard the “sssssssssss”! He was afraid to use the bathroom because the snake was in there… And now, he came running into the room asking me if I was making a “ssssssssssss” noise! Well, I was sniffling…

So, this should be documented I think… As people do not generally remember how they got their phobia. I certainly cannot recall how I got a fear of heights!

I am going to hope that this goes away… I don’t mind that he has a fear of snakes, as that is not necessarily irrational… but having a “ssssssssss” follow you everywhere you go… that might be a little tough for him!

At least the fear of small spaces did not rub off on him… otherwise giving them their own room might not be working out so well!
