life in canada.

The thing I like most about living here is the general honesty of people, seriously. My cousin once left a shopping bag on the subway here while he was visiting from New York, and he was stunned when someone actually turned it into lost and found!
Yesterday I was getting onto the subway, and I saw the sign above, which really sort of made me laugh. It says “The collector will return shortly. In the meantime please pay your fare and enter.”, with the “pay” underlined and circled – as if that’s going to compel a person to do it! haha The thing is though, that every person who passed by, including myself, did pay! It’s sad that I find honesty in a society a rare and noteworthy thing – it certainly does not say much for us, as a people – but I was impressed that everyone did pay the fare.

I will also pay.
It’s less of an honest thing though - more of a “Oh they may have cameras and I don’t wanna go to jail for 2 bucks” ... although once when returning late at night with a bunch of friends most of whom jumped in ... and nothing happened.

Don’t you think that they had to ‘underline’ and ‘circle’ says as much about us as the fact that we do pay.
Thoughts from sf
I would pay dear. They have those mostly at the yonge/dundas station.
And yes, honesty is still there, have seen it and alhamdulilah, it will still go on *living*.

Haleem - well at least you’re honest about not being honest! haha - kidding!! are there cameras at the subway stations?
Hasan - I am not sure what you mean, I guess that yes there surely will be those who don’t pay, just at the time I decided to pay attention, everyone did pay.
sf - i don’t take the subway that much, in fact, i really detest the subway… i would much rather walk, but i am ALWAYS late - late could possibly be my middle name! - so i end up taking it cuz of that, but only union to st. patrick - that’s the extent of my subway adventures!
