Umbrella phobia

Is there a name for that? What do you think it should be called? Umbraphobia?

So, it’s been raining a fair bit here in Toronto, and naturally, there have been a lot of umbrellas around the place, apparently as people tend to carry them when it rains, which made me realize, now that I work outside of my house again, that I have an irrational fear of umbrellas! Well, it’s not so much a “fear”, as it is a “dislike”.

I was going to lunch one rainy day with a couple co-workers, one of whom had an umbrella, and being the lovely person that she is, she offered to share it with me and moved it a little over me, but being the weirdo that I am, I freaked out and immediately rushed out from under the “great big thing that blocks out the sky and makes you feel like you’re in a tiny little world without any air”, or the umbrella – whatever you want to call it, and it was at that moment I realized that perhaps there was something slightly wrong with me.

Anyway, my point is that I am not an umbrella person, and umm, clearly I have may some issues!

Do you have umbraphobia too? By any chance? So I can seem somewhat normal?

I am in no way an expert- pretty much the opposite of anything resembling “expert” status- but that sounds like claustrophobia to me.  Of course, my knowledge about claustrophobia is pretty much entirely derived from Soap Operas so I could be wrong

I get that feeling too so i use a light blue umbrella that lets the light in and i also have a light green one.

You can also get those transparent ones.

Dalia, you’re right, i believe it’s claustrophobia too, which i do have.. apparently it’s because of “emotional” issues - surprise, surprise!

Specs, you know, i just don’t mind being in the rain, i find it sort of freeing.

I also don’t like umbrellas and when you got a stroller to push and only one hand to hold the umbrella, ummm, I give up. Btw, I have always had a case where my umbrella would turn upside down(yes,gusty winds n all happen WHEN I decide to carry it!). I prefer to feel the rain too

Chowder has declared that if he ever becomes dictator for life that he would outlaw umbrellas.  Though his issue is fear of getting poked in the eyes with one of the knobby spokes end thingys.

sf - you know how we have these freak storms that come out of no where? well today i went into the grocery store and it was nice and sunny, i came out and there was a thunder storm! my groceries and i got completely soaked - and i LOVED it! made me smile in the car.
i may be crazy!

Cakes - when i googled umbrella phobia, some stuff about people having a fear of those “poky” things came up, so i am not surprised, but if he’s going to outlaw umbrellas - i am SO voting for him to be a dictator!!!
