Ahhh… a toddler and his potty... what can I say… I give up!

Sadly, now he asks to go to the toilet when he feels like he needs a new toy. And I, in turn, will only actively encourage him to use the toilet when I am not busy! He will be back in diapersuntil he is 3, and then I will try again… daycare is obviously not happening… I blame myself really… I mean, the 4 year old almost had him potty trained... too bad he had to leave me in charge while he was at school!

Oh NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You were my inspiration! You can’t give up! Not now! Not ever!

Asalamu Alaikum Shaz

I have been following your blog for a while, and never really got time to post. But for this I must, I have a 2 (almost 3 in aug) year old and he hates using the potty… he can do Ma’shallah SO much without me, but.. not the potty, even with me ext sitting next to him will he sit on it.

And I also have a 1 1/2 yr old who keeps me from giving the older one alot of potty attention….
I was hoping you would break serious ground. :( After this week, I’ve come to the conclusion that the only thing left for me is intense dua!

welcome Faryal, walaikum salaam.
dua is always a good idea! smile

so friends, this is what happened this morning… he had to go potty, and he asked me to use the toilet to do it! typical huh? The moment I stop expecting him to do it, he asks!

maybe I am not giving up just yet!

what I have noticed is that telling him all the things that he could do if he does not have diapers is actually working. he really wants to go to school, so I am telling him that he has to use the toilet to be able to do that! And now he’s really excited to become a ‘big boy’! the bribery is not working well at all… I do not recommend it… unless this is done on a usual basis and the child understands the concept! I usually just take away things for bad behaviour and give kuddos for good behaviour, but I don’t bribe them.

Oh, Shaz.  What a bummer.  I feel for you.

That was EXACTLY my experience with my twin boys!  I stressed out so much about the potty training from 2.5 to 3 years old, and they would NOT do it.  A couple of days after they turned 3, they both told me they were done with diapers, and lo and behold, within the week they were potty trained.  I think it must be like when a baby decides to come out of the mother’s womb…. the baby alone decides when it’s time.  Hang in there!

Ann… it’s hard!

bonggamom… I think you got it! my older son did the same thing… I wanted this one to start daycare, so looks like it ain’t happening, so I’ll just wait ‘till 3… save my sanity!!!

i shall hand over my kids to my mommy. there’s no way i can be presumptuous enough to even think i can manage such a tough feat. honestly, kudos to all you moms who have successfully potty trained some of your kids. and of course, mad respect to the 4 year old. hehe. maybe, I could send my kids along to your first-born shaz? i’ll pay him in lollypops! lolz!

Too funny…4 yr getting the job done.  Too cute.

I’m dreading the potty training.  My goal is this summer but he has absolutely no interest in it except to stand on.
