read more about: 4 year olds. accomplishments.

One additional thing about being a mother of a few kids, sadly, is the uncontrollable urge to swear (not at the kids, but you know, just because more kids kinda equals less tolerance for nonsense), even though I am not a person that would ever swear in conversation.

And because I have kids that do repeat a lot of the things that I say – you remember the time that they started saying damn energy, damn energy? – now when I am discussing particularly anger-inducing subjects, I will spell out certain ‘choice’ words.

Last night, as we were eating dinner, I was spelling out a word to my husband, when my son interrupted us to say “ahhh-sss-sss, hey! what does aassss mean?” Ummm, yeah – we just laughed that one off and completely avoided the question, but more importantly, he can S-P-E-L-L!

We were so happy about it, I totally forgot what made me mad in the first place! The next hour was filled with “spell cat, spell bat, spell dad, spell mug, spell every-3-letter-word-except-the-aforementioned-choice-word.

My 4 year old is officially reading! Yeah! smile

I am laughing so hard! And I thought it was bad my son learned to spell from dvd cases!

Thoughts from Anne

Too funny! My oldest daughter had a bout with a bad word after her daddy watched ‘Scarface’ with the volume up waaaaaaaay too high!

Hey, the spelling part is good! lol

Thoughts from sf

LOL!It’s true, I never *swore* that much until I got kids! Dh uses alot of *sh#t* when we are driving,so we changed the “i” to “oo” thus making the word “shoot”. So when he wants to swear he goes, shoot and my 6 yr old looks so “horrified” coz daddy said a really bad word! :D
I try to spell some words when having a conversation with dh but now, my daughter can spell too,so it gets really difficult to have a conversation when she’s around, hehehehe.

Too cute!  Man i don’t know what will happen when i can’t spell anymore.  That’s so cool that he can spell and is beginning the big adventure of reading.  yay for you guys.  grin

Salamaat,
I love reading your blog for “what to expect in the next phase” tid bits smile Man spelling is a life saver right now…I don’t know what i’d do if I couldn’t spell anymore, especially with him understanding all the languages we speak…blah.

Thoughts from shaz

It’s definitely the start of a new phase! He’s doing quite well, so I am very pleased, but I will surely miss the luxury of being able to spell!

Thoughts from Ameera

This is too common with parents!!! Just wait until your kids that grew up with you spelling learn how to spell those ‘choice words’, and use them properly!!!!! GRUNT
