Beginnings

read more about: life in canada. hope this inspires. being muslim.

Hi, I’m muslim. It’s September 11th today and I feel I should say something on the subject, but the truth is I’m tried. Tired of a lot of things, and sad about other things...

But, today I sent out postcards to a few of my American neighbors, as part of Karen’s postcard swap and I thought the theme of “beginnings” to be somewhat appropriate.

So, whatever it is that you’re beginning, I hope you find success, fulfillment, and happiness.

Love, Shaz.

Cute postcards!!!  Now I don’t feel quite so bad for only having half of mine done.  I really need to get them done tonight.

Thoughts from Em

If that’s your handwriting, it’s beautiful ma sha Allah!

Thoughts from Meredith

As a white, middle class, American woman please know that there are those of us out here that will see YOU, and your children and families, past the colour of your skin, the name of your God, and the place of your worship.

There is a hope for our world that as long as we continue to reach out to one another as HUMANS.  You did it with your postcards, and you’ll continue to do it with your children and their classmates.  Sometimes those relationships will make all the difference.

It was for me.  My best friend is a Pakistani-born, Muslim from Abu Dhabi, UAE.  We have traveled the world together; we have cried and grieved together.  We have celebrated and lost together.  Our families are joined, for life, for better or worse.  And six years ago on September 11, 2001, theirs was the first phone call I received of grief and condolences for the tragedy our WORLD suffered that day, and every day.  The things that man will do against man are horrific.  We can change that in our day to day lives.  I know we can!!!
