I am an idiot!

On Moving

Ok, so, you will need a plan. A good plan. No, a great plan. A really kick-ass plan – a plan A/plan B type plan. With a backup plan.

And if, let’s say, you’re no good at planning, or you happen to live life completely plan-less, because 1) you are quite content living life as a joy ride, or 2) once had a plan that got so totally messed up that you could not recover and then decided to never plan again – well, hire someone because YOU NEED A PLAN!

Otherwise, you’ll be moving for about 1 1/2 months. Really. Every single day. You’ll move random things from the “old” house to the “new” house in a million plastic bags, because lack of planning meant that you had no boxes, or tape, but lucky you’re into recycling, so you’ve kept every plastic bag that ever came your way. Yay you!

You’ll also want to make sure your kids are in school, or you have some type of babysitting. (I will say that my kids were troupers though!) If you happen to have all your 3 kids with you, pretty much nonstop, whilst you move – you may want to slit your wrists at times – just saying. I mean, for some people, that would be a thought. In my case though, I really enjoyed each moment. Really.

Anyway, most of it is done now. We’re nicely settled into a much cooler, comfier house, with a dishwasher. I know many of you will be pleased to know about the dishwasher. However, you should know that I have no idea how to use it. It makes me anxious, like fax machines, photocopiers, and Excel. Maybe one day.

And this is why people think I’m crazy

I’m usually called “crazy”, or as my dad likes to say, “unusual”, because I attempt to do things that most people would not ever consider undertaking, or because I usually see things differently from most.

I was helping out Renee with a tiny bit of coding on her site one day a few months ago, and fell in love with her quote – “only those who can see the invisible, can do the impossible” – right? That’s just so me! At least I like to think that’s so me!

Anyway. Back to crazy.

I think sid is about to kill me in my sleep because I am making her paint everything!

This is how sid spent her day…

Meanwhile, I don’t do very well at jobs that could potentially get very messy, aka painting, so I was “prepping” the walls!

1) Remove everything from the walls

2) Pull out all the wall plugs

3) Fill the holes, wait for it to dry, then sand it

So. People. We are exhausted! And most of the time, overwhelmed. Pray for us to be finished with this house soon!! Or come over and help!!

PS. Thanks to people who did come out to help – much appreciated.

The “I miss my iPod” lament

Ok people, I sold my iPod. I sold it because I’m getting an iPhone, however, the iPhone is not scheduled to make an appearance until the end of the month, and I didn’t really expect that my iPod would be sold quite so quickly. I am very sure you can see where I am going with this…

I was driving to work last Friday, in an awesome amount of traffic (which is the reason I usually take a train!) and I had no iPod. Gasp! I was bewildered for a moment while I pondered what I did before I had one, then I went looking for a CD. I had 2 in the van, neither was good, choices were so limited, I was forlorn.

Then I got to work, and I realized that I had to listen to the youtube playlist I had created waaay back. I was slightly irritated that I had to have youtube running on my already slow computer, and yes, I know there are newfangled ways to create playlists, but I really don’t have that kind of patience.

There is no bright side to this story my friends, I am persevering through this adversity. wink

Thanks to Aaminah though, I discovered blip.fm and although I have no inclination to be a DJ, I did find myself quite hooked on this song.

Anyway, as you were…

On not-so-much-of-an-accomplishment

Since I always share my accomplishments with you, I thought it was only fair to share my failures too.

So, remember the great funk of 2008? Well, it wasn’t so much that I was in funk, but rather like I was broken into a million tiny little pieces and thrown all over the earth, then had to somehow find each piece, bring them all together and glue them back into place, or, you know, something like that.

Anyway, when I said that I was taking a break from web development, I really meant that I literally could not work anymore because of the aforementioned being broken into a million pieces and all that. The last website I worked on was Becoming Sarah, and in her design info page, she praises complains about my work, but she’s such a great writer that I even enjoy reading something bad about my work! Ya…

Ok, that’s it. As you were…

Umbrella phobia

Is there a name for that? What do you think it should be called? Umbraphobia?

So, it’s been raining a fair bit here in Toronto, and naturally, there have been a lot of umbrellas around the place, apparently as people tend to carry them when it rains, which made me realize, now that I work outside of my house again, that I have an irrational fear of umbrellas! Well, it’s not so much a “fear”, as it is a “dislike”.

I was going to lunch one rainy day with a couple co-workers, one of whom had an umbrella, and being the lovely person that she is, she offered to share it with me and moved it a little over me, but being the weirdo that I am, I freaked out and immediately rushed out from under the “great big thing that blocks out the sky and makes you feel like you’re in a tiny little world without any air”, or the umbrella – whatever you want to call it, and it was at that moment I realized that perhaps there was something slightly wrong with me.

Anyway, my point is that I am not an umbrella person, and umm, clearly I have may some issues!

Do you have umbraphobia too? By any chance? So I can seem somewhat normal?
