Speedlinking & life

I was at the park today with my kids and a guy called me a “dumb b*tch” – it took me a while to remember that the fabric on my head brings my IQ down to about 3… I guess that made his comment justified, and in front of my kids no less. But at least they didn’t have to watch their mother being stabbed to death while their father is shot and the world barely even takes any notice.

And while we’re on the subject of injustice, prejudice and other ways we terrorize one another – minorities not welcome at a pool? Seriously? And what the hell is up with that?!

Hey, props to all full-time single parents… I don’t think that a person could truly appreciate what this feels like unless they actually experience it. The financial burden, the responsibility, the worry… and trying to figure out how to take care of the kids, work, play, cook, and survive every single day takes a bit of a miracle. But, I am so much luckier than so many millions of people, so I’ll say thanks for that, and pray for sabr.

On a lighter note, I watched The Other End of the Line, which I had never even heard about till 5 minutes before I saw it. It was a cute movie, more Desi-ish than American-ish I thought. It was a romantic comedy with the usual make-believe, true love nonsense, but other than that pretty funny, at least I thought it was funny.

And on a good note, I’ll be at BlogHer this year… hanging out in the Geek Lab talking WordPress. Hope to see some of you guys there!

Happy Weekend!

Speedlinking, just a bit

I have not really visited much blogs lately (sorry), so I don’t really have that much speedlinking to do, but here are a few to take your mind of work for a bit! smile

Organica, please come a plant me a garden! I want yummy strawberries in my backyard too!!

So. Did you guys ever read archie comics when you were younger? I did. A lot, actually. But somewhere around 15-16 I think I lost touch. Apparently though, they’ve still been going strong, and Archie is getting married! Congrats to him!

Love the dude who’s giving expensive hugs! Too funny. And this is a great planet photo of Toronto’s Harbourfront.

I watched He’s just not that into you this week, and I must say that I am glad I chose to watch it while simultaneously working and not in a movie theater, because “romantic” or “comedy” it was not. What it was though, was a well-filmed documentary on relationships. There was definitely a lot of truth in how men and women interact with each other; how we end up in marriages with people sometimes “just because we spent years with them”, or how we end up just pretending a lot in our relationships – mostly to convince ourselves that we’re actually happy. But in the end, when you do find that “true love” or you do get out of a pretense relationship and truly find yourself, you realize that life is ok, good, and you’re stronger because of it all. Or, you know, something like that! smile

Happy Friday!

Speedlinking & the house I’d like to live in!

Firstly, seriously wow, the house is not only minimalist and modern, but is also on a hill (I am assuming), palm trees and warmth! LOVE LOVE LOVE!! Only thing that’s missing is an ocean! Go check out the house tour and someone please buy it and invite me to move in!

Speaking of buying houses, here are 30 beautiful real estate websites, I don’t know, just in case… (I actually had no idea that real estate websites look so very cool these days!)

I am not an ice-cream fan usually, but I discovered in Trinidad that I actually like homemade, tropical flavored ice-cream a lot (I didn’t actually have any, BUT I was reminded that I did like it when I lived there!), I just really dislike the stuff they sell here! Anyway, if you’re so inclined, here is a homemade ice-cream recipe.

Also not a fan of cake, but cake that’s better than sex? I might be inclined to try that one!

Cute… and geeky, but mostly cute!

I saw this, ammm, let’s say interesting, video on facebook, thanks to Natalia and I really had to share it.

If you’re in T.O., you’ll appreciate the first cartoon!

My kids are seriously, like, over Dora, but if your kids are not, Dora’s in Toronto next week.

Speedlinking & the nice warm!

Warmness makes me feel immense love for Toronto again! Actually for anything. Like cooking, or walks, or parks, or pretty much anything… did I ever mention that I hate winter? Anyway, warmth, LOVE it!

Oh, the seriously weird!

So, my friend decided that she was on this “thing” where she was eating only fair trade chocolate – she, admittedly, was not sure if she was doing it because she believed in the cause or because it made her seem cool! Either way, if you’re looking for fair trade chocolate in T.O., try Delight Chocolate

And while on the subject of Toronto, this is a great photo of yonge street.

I am all for recycling and stuff, but I’m not sure about seat belt camera straps! Although, here are some really excellent green gifts in celebration of Earth day.

I too love hellos and love actually (which makes me cry every single time I see it!) which is a great movie, and if you haven’t seen it, you really should!

I wish I knew how to sew! Seriously! I started a class once but then my teacher kinda abandoned the class… it’s very sad. But, if I knew how to sew, I would sooo make this cute bag!

If you happen to be in Hamilton or area this weekend, you may want to check out the Bug show, it’s the closing weekend.

Happy Friday!

Speedlinking’s back

The power of the internet is sometimes mind-blowing, and in the case of Maddie, inspirational. In case you feel so inclined, instructions for giving your blog a purple background in remembrance/support.

If it were at all possible I would gladly hibernate all through winter. Earlier this week, Toronto was quite icky, but today was beautiful and lovely and I am very much wishing that spring is here!

I am not a fan of muffins, like seriously, I could easily live without muffins (although I end up making them a few times per month for my kids!), but this banana bread thingy looks quite yum!

Love this!

And finally, things to do in T.O. this weekend.

Happy Friday!
