It was 1pm, and we were finally headed out to our small family picnic/get-together. My cousin stated the obvious said “so, it’s 1pm, and we were supposed to leave at 11?”, I decided that it was a good opportunity to point out that I was not the cause, “Hey… it was not my fault, I was ready on time – with my THREE kids!” Some people in the room may or may not have rolled their eyes at that statement but whatever, it was the truth.

“So” said Sid, “you were on time for once, now you know how the rest of us feel when we have to wait!” Amm, I am not always late, let me just say ok, and I do have the aforementioned THREE kids, and there was that one time about 3 years ago that I… anyway, that doesn’t matter now, my point is that I am not always late!

We were merrily driving along on our almost 2 hour journey, enjoying some Super Nibs when my mom discovered that I had a garbage bag in the car. “Wow, you have a garbage bag in the car??” exclaimed Sid, “and you were on time! Oh my god!”

Right. Hardi-ha-ha.

When we got there, it was really really nice, and serene, and all country-and-lake-like. My sister marveled at the beauty of our surroundings and at the fact that I had not forgotten anything, “Wow, you were organized too? So, you were on time, you had a garbage bag in the car, AND you were organized?”

“Aren’t I always?!” I really don’t know where she was going with those comments.

So, we came back to the cottage after a great day and we were all getting ready to leave when there was a slight alarm – apparently there was a toilet paper crisis…there was no more! “Oh, wait, I have some in the van”, I said, because, well, I do have THREE kids! And everyone rejoiced and agreed that I should have toilet paper, you know, with the kids and all that. I decided not to look in Sid’s general direction.

It was about 10:30-ish in the night and I was driving, and my mom said “you’re driving kinda slow, I think you should speed up”… in my defense, I was driving the speed limit! I think Sid almost had a heart attack – “So, you were on time, you had a garbage bag, you were organized, you brought toilet paper, AND mommy is telling you to speed up! WHO ARE YOU?!”

25 Random things you may or may not know about me

1) I wish that I was living on my own private island. Actually it’s more a goal than a wish. And not so much of a sun-and-sand-type island, but I need to be close to an ocean. Yes, need. It’s something I desperately miss. Sometimes when I am outside and the wind is just right, and I close my eyes, I can actually smell (and sometimes hear, but I understand if this makes me seem crazy) the ocean.

2) I am very detached from my cell phone, and can barely use text messaging. I can go an entire week without my phone ringing once. I don’t have voicemail, purposely, because I never check it. Email is the best, and fastest way to get a message to me.

3) I love bookstores. Even when I didn’t read books I still loved to be in a bookstore.

4) I wish that I didn’t love Canada this much, it would be easier to leave, because I really, really, really detest the cold.

5) I feel, deep down, that I will have twin girls at some point in my life. I have no idea why. I don’t really know if it’s a “feeling” or a strong desire, but either way, I’ve felt like that for a couple years and it hasn’t gone away yet.

6) When I was in high school I sold colored paper clips to one of my best friends (she was not my friend at the time). We still laugh about it now, and even still have some of the paper clips!

7) I prefer to “go out” for breakfast more than any other meal. Also, I can eat just about anything for breakfast, from a slice of toast to rice and curry duck, or nothing at all, I just don’t like cereal very much, or not at all, well, maybe if it’s dry, although I do like frosted flakes and cold milk as a “snack” for some reason.

8) I think my favorite movie is Transformers. The number of times I’ve watched it is easily in the double digits. When my kids are thinking of a movie to watch, I almost always suggest Transformers!

9) I am not a gamer. I don’t play computer games, or any other type of games. At all. I have tried, but it never really caught on with me. I would like to get the drum set for guitar hero though, I think I could get into that.

10) I love drums. Any kind. I wish I knew how to play – it’s the one thing that I’ve wanted since I was a small child and still really want now.

11) I am really starving right at this moment.

12) I would love to visit Egypt. I don’t really have any specific reasons, but it fascinates me.

13) I answer all my kids questions (mostly) so much that I find myself sometimes wishing that I had ignored them a little because now the talking and questions and discussions are so incessant it’s often head-ache inducing.

14) I watched Saturday morning cartoons until I had kids.

15) Most Sunday mornings after breakfast, my kids, sister and I have a dance party – if you would like to come, it usually occurs around 9:30am!

16) I really like to play cricket, although seldom ever do, and more or less can’t very well.

17) Most of my clothes are grey, or black, or grey and black. I rarely, and I do mean rarely, ever wear anything with “color”.

18) As a reflex I add “u” to words like color or behavior, but because my blog is read my mostly Americans, I’ve made a conscious decision to drop the “u” here.

19) I love notebooks, or more specifically journals.

20) I love photography. I subscribe to a great many photography blogs, and even more food blogs because I love great food photos.

21) I prefer to wear comfortable clothing, as opposed to trendy ones. In fact, I could easily live in pjs if it was socially acceptable to do so. Although I like to think I aim for comfy and trendy.

22) I’ve worked at 7 different paying jobs in my life – most of them doing web development, and one unpaid position at TorontoLife as an “online intern” back when I was still in university.

23) I’ve owned small weights (3-5lbs) since I was like 12. I still have a pair, even though I now rarely ever use them.

24) My high school in Trinidad was close to the mountains, and if I got to school really early in the morning when hardly anyone was around, I would sit on the ground and just stare at the mountains. I still miss that even now.

25) I skipped a lot of classes in my life, both in high school and in university. While I do hate the formality of the classroom environment, I do love learning. I especially love Math, and wish that I had the discipline involved to “study” more. I taught myself to build websites when I was 20 and never regretted it for a moment, it has just the right amount of design and technology to make fall totally in love with it.

You know in iTunes, there is this thing called Genius, apparently I asked for the service – must of been a while ago cuz I forgot I had it – anyway, today I realized there is this section called “Genuis Just For You”. I looked at the songs and laughed.

What kinda songs does it recommend for you?

And just in case you’re looking to commemorate the event, here are all things obama!

Yay me. Said in sarcastic deadpan. Is that even correct terminology?

I don’t know how I feel at this moment (which is actually 5:20pm on the 24th, and not 12am on the 25th, because, yes, I do just set that publish time, and no, I don’t sit here and wait until 12am to hit publish), mostly I feel exhausted when I think about the year I spent being 30. It’s an age I would never, NEVER, never want to repeat.

So, to those of you not celebrating my birthday today, happy whatever you’re celebrating this time of year! And have a fantastic day!

And to Organica… “paper towel!” wink

Well, I tried to show the bleeding knuckles for the lovely and thoughtful Mand, but they weren’t bleeding anymore – it’s the first 2, you can see they are darker than the others. Also, I have a scar, which just sorta showed up one day, out of nowhere. But, I think it looks cool – I prefer hands that have character.

One of the bracelets I’m wearing is for War Child and the other says “hope”… because, really, without hope we don’t have much.
