What Kids?

We’re on the road…AGAIN! My husband is on another business trip, so here we are for the week again…this time with all 3 kids. I don’t feel guilty this time, but I do feel regretful… I regret not leaving the middle one behind!

The crying just has not stop with these little creatures… (do I mean kids? No, these are not “my” kids… they were switched with some little aliens while I slept… ) At any given moment in the past couple days at least one of them is crying or fussing…or making us frustrated for some other reason… (good thing it was the weekend, so I wasn’t alone!)

I’ve developed a strategy…pretend that the baby is fussing alot more than he is so that I can hold him…and then send my husband to deal with the other 2!! But Alas, its Monday… and my evil plan has to come to an end… as I sit here and type… one kid on my lap, another one crying in the playpen, and the other asking to go back home!

Note to the aliens that stole my kids… PLEASE return them!!

Midnight Mambo

As my husband and I were about to go to sleep last night at about 11:30, all 3 kids decided that they would wake up and surprise us with a lovely little melody…

The toddler has the most high-pitched voice, but since he’s not too loud and mostly reaches out to his daddy, I can usually block out his tune…

The newborn is not as enthusiastic as the other 2 children about the performance yet, its more of a little squeak from him, which kind of takes him out of the running…

Now the preschooler…he takes the prize! He’s loud, he can keep on going for a long time without breaks, his pitch goes high and low, and he likes to repeat the same notes over and over!!

If anyone wants to rent some kids for the weekend, please let me know…they give GREAT performances!!

At least they are all asleep right now (including daddy)…

For the first time since I had the baby, I am alone with all 3 kids… The eldest one has a cold, the youngest one is constipated, and the middle one…well, he’s the middle one!

I am trying really hard to get a routine going for us…so far the 3 year old woke up at 6:30am and did not go back to sleep… the ‘almost’ 2 year old got up a 6:30am and actually DID go back to sleep till 8am… the newborn got up at 6:30am and woke up ‘everyone’! I gave them breakfast, read them 2 books, we watched TV, they threw cheerios all over the floor (which I had to pick up), then I brought them up for naptime…

I fell asleep first…

I had a 15 minute nap, and when I woke up the 2 boys were asleep…

BUT the baby is still awake!

Road Trip

So we took a road trip with 2 out of 3 kids…we left the middle one with grandma…YES, I do feel guilty about it! Even with the other 2 it took us almost 6 hours for a 4 hour trip…

Travelling with kids is a bit of a challenge…what to back?…how much to pack?….should we even go?? We decided to leave home at noon, we took the kids to grandma’s house early in the morning so we could have enough time to pack. By 1pm we were ready to leave the house…by 2pm we were pulling out of the driveway…by 2:30pm we were ready to leave grandma’s house with the 2 kids…wait, we forgot something at home…by 3pm we were again pulling out of the driveway… So its 3pm and we’re leaving home, the ‘almost’ 2 year old is alseep so he doesn’t know that we are leaving, and the 3 year old is extremely excited about his trip.

After 3 hours of driving, the 3 year old declares that he would like to go back home and sleep! At 9pm we finally get here, as my husband makes the 3rd trip up to the room, the lady at the front desk comments that we have a lot of stuff! Meanwhile, in the room, 3 year old is bouncing from one side of the room to the next, I am ready to just drop, the baby needs to be fed…and wait a minute…what about dinner?!?

One room please…

Since my second son was born, we’ve had a co-sleeping arrangement…well, they have their own beds…but they’re in our room. The room is fairly big, so we have our bed, 2 kids bed, and the crib…makes for very interesting nights.

I was feeding the baby at 4am and my 3 year old son says to me “mummy, I want you to go to sleep! Close your eyes, and GO TO SLEEP!!” hmmmmm, sounds familiar?!? I just had to laugh.

While the eldest one likes to sleeps now, the “almost” 2 year old is another story…he is the last to go to sleep and the first to wake up. At 6AM he is in our bed trying to wake us up…actually trying to wake his dad up (which is fine with me!) He usually does not succeed, so next he tries me…that usually doesn’t work either, so he moves on to his brother’s bed…who gets irritated and tries to push him away…usually by this time I have to get up and intervene…but some mornings he even tries to wake up the baby!! So I open my eyes and there he is poking the baby’s feet and singing his name!!

This morning I put on the tv for them, hoping to keep them from running around the room…it worked…they were very quiet, especially the ‘almost’ 2 year old…until he came to the bed with his face shiny and said “mummy?” Shiny face?!? hmmm were is the Vaseline?? oh right, all over his face!!

Well, at least my husband is getting some sleep!
