1) It’s rare that I ever cook a meal that I really want, but when I do… lamb in hoisin sauce with pan seared scallops and sweet potato pie is right up there with my absolute faves! I made this a couple weeks ago, so don’t go showing up for dinner tonite.
2) I bought a filing cabinet today. Umm, yeah, not something I ever thought I would be purchasing, but there you go. Next thing you know, I’ll be using excel! Although, I am pretty convinced that I am allergic to excel.
3) I generally try not to go into places that I love but seriously cannot afford, but I went into Pier 1 today and I think I said “if I had a nice house and money, I would sooo buy this!” every 5 seconds. Anyway.
4) I happened to see an episode of gilmore girls this morning (I really loved that series) and I cried and cried, I am not even sure why, but if you haven’t seen it, you should, it’s a good series if you like sarcasm and a lot of talking and the whole single mother thing…
Have a good week people!

…this lowly pack of cards.

For reals! This is absolutely the only thing I bought for myself. I must admit though, I do have a weakness for cards and I do tend to walk around with a pack of cards in my bag. I have no idea why, as I rarely ever find anyone who wants to play!!
So, I drove there. Me, sids, and the kids. Now, if you’ve been on road trips with kids, you know that you have to add about 2 to 3 hours extra to the time, and if you’ve been on a road trip with me, you know that could extend to about 4 hours extra. My philosophy is that the vacation starts the minute you leave the house, so I really really like to enjoy the ride and not get stressed out about “making good time”.

My philosophy is also that photographs are good source of amusement when waiting in a car for aunty sids to come back with coffee and such!
Anyway, we got into Manhattan, which was not really our intention – because like idiots we did not pre-plan a route and solely depended on our GPS, Sarah, to get us there – and Sarah went a bit nuts. The tall buildings, the narrow streets, the interference? We’re not quite sure what happened, but she and Sid were arguing every 5 seconds!
Meanwhile, I had to traverse Canal Street traffic on a Saturday!

Finally, we did get out of the city and safely to my aunt’s house in Queens.

We only got enough time to visit the museum while we were there. It was a superly short but fun visit.

Sid: Ok you’re just being stupid now!
Me: Listen don’t hurt her feelings, she’ll stop talking to stop talking to us
Sid: I’m just being honest, we’re nothing if we can’t be honest with each other

Sid: Ok, seriously now, we have to communicate or else this is not going to work out!!
GPS: Turn right in 200m, then turn left.
Sid: There is no right dammit!!

the first born.

Me: wow, u’re 7. like, 7! I just can’t believe I have a 7 year old son!
7 year old: what? why?
Me: well, I guess that means I’m old!
7 year old: oh, well, at least you still look young.
Me: yeah? like how young?
7 year old: well, you are 31 but you look like you’re 30!
Me: hmm, thanks son.
He spent the week sick, but in good spirits – he takes pain pretty well, sometimes we don’t realize he’s sick until he can’t hide it any longer.
I always remember this kid’s birth, he was 2 weeks overdue and I had to be induced. I spent hours upon hours waiting to be in labor. Had my water broken, then had saline solution put back in because his heart rate kept dropping. At some point in the middle of the delivery, the doctor stepped away from me and said “oh, there is no heartbeat! nothing else we can do”. Everyone just looked at her for about 6 seconds in stunned silence, then the nurse went into “super nurse” mode and took over things. There was a heartbeat, albeit rapidly fading. Thank god, everything worked out fine, but he does still have a scar from his birth, and I guess so do I… Anyway.
Aunty sid: kid, you know that now that you’re 7, people won’t say that you’re “cute” anymore right?
7 year old: yeah? well, ok. Ohmygod, I’m not cute! I’m, like, you know, old now.
