As we observed spring in full bloom in our backyard

image

We finally ventured out to assess the mess and make clean up plans

image

And photograph the flora (this one taken by the 6 year old)

image

And apparently play basketball

image

And cricket

image

And pretend to play baseball, because beyond that glove, we’ve got nothing else to support that game

image

And collect “rocks”

Happy spring!

Surrendered

read more about: life. being muslim.

Or defeated, I am not sure which, but I’ve realized that this is how I feel. And I am not sure it’s an entirely bad feeling to be honest.

The “usual” me, although quite a believer in fate and ‘things happening as they are meant to’, would be quite perturbed over my lack of control with anything in my life. But now though, I feel, I think, resigned – I am not sure if I lost the urge to hope or care or I’ve just really accepted that the path planned by the Almighty is better and just, no matter how bleak it may appear at the moment. I’ve decided to believe it’s the latter.

I think in most religions there is the notion of tests and trials, and when we go through them, I think that we are forever changed, hopefully for the better. There were times that my faith was seriously shaken, never really lost, but perhaps just questioned, mostly at the times I reflected upon my life and was actually shocked by the reality of my situation. Those moments didn’t last very long though, they are fleeting, few and far-between, yet there.

Normal, I guess, are those feelings, I mean we all cycle through highs and lows, periods of faith and periods of disenchantment with everything. I’ve noticed that it’s the really small things that give us the strength to go on, like kids – they are quite the little miracles, a kind word from a friend, a smile from a stranger, genuine appreciation from a client.

I think it took a long time for me to find some kind of peace in my life, apparently peace is impossible to come by when we’re trying to figure out the mysteries of the universe, or, you know, the “whys” in our lives. Acceptance seems to work much better. Or just surrender, because life happens as happens.

Last night we watched space chimps and I got to say I was totally cracking up! Although, I do have an embarrassing appreciation for cheesiness.

Happy Monday!

Surely nothing says “love” like a blog post then linked on facebook

My friend, Natalia (as I think she wanted her name mentioned in nice big, bold, blingy letters, although she’ll have to settle for regular, black, Trebuchet MS font), was one of my best friends in high school, whose fondest memories of me apparently are of the times I would steal her lunch! Although funnily enough, my fondest memories of her are the times that she lovingly shared her lunch with me!

What’s amazing is that we lost communication with each other for years – for years I really didn’t know her and she didn’t know me – but recently we were lucky enough to be able to reconnect and it’s almost as if no time passed.

You know, the most remarkable thing that’s happened to me in the past year is that I’ve discovered that real friendships and true love is timeless, never forgotten, can survive pretty much anything, and is worth every bit of hurt and pain and frustration that comes along with it. Some things can really never be lost.

Speedlinking & the house I’d like to live in!

by shaz on Friday, April 24, 2009 at 06:19 AM
read more about: speedlinking.

Firstly, seriously wow, the house is not only minimalist and modern, but is also on a hill (I am assuming), palm trees and warmth! LOVE LOVE LOVE!! Only thing that’s missing is an ocean! Go check out the house tour and someone please buy it and invite me to move in!

Speaking of buying houses, here are 30 beautiful real estate websites, I don’t know, just in case… (I actually had no idea that real estate websites look so very cool these days!)

I am not an ice-cream fan usually, but I discovered in Trinidad that I actually like homemade, tropical flavored ice-cream a lot (I didn’t actually have any, BUT I was reminded that I did like it when I lived there!), I just really dislike the stuff they sell here! Anyway, if you’re so inclined, here is a homemade ice-cream recipe.

Also not a fan of cake, but cake that’s better than sex? I might be inclined to try that one!

Cute… and geeky, but mostly cute!

I saw this, ammm, let’s say interesting, video on facebook, thanks to Natalia and I really had to share it.

If you’re in T.O., you’ll appreciate the first cartoon!

My kids are seriously, like, over Dora, but if your kids are not, Dora’s in Toronto next week.
