5 year old: Mommy, why is there an apple on my iPod?

Me: Because it’s an Apple iPod, it’s made by a company called Apple.

5 year old: Oh, like your computer?

Me: Yes.

5 year old: So, you have an Apple computer?

Me: Yes.

5 year old: But, you have it because it’s good right? Not because it’s cool.

Me: hahaha, yes babe, it is good.

5 year old: Ok, if it’s good and cool, then that is ok.

Oh, the drama!

So, my 5 year old, long obsessed with large houses, you know, because perhaps our tiny little shoebox of a home is not sufficiently fascinating for him, was looking at an ad for an expensive-ish house… merely a few million… He looks at it, and with his mouth hanging open, drops the flyer to the floor.

Me: Yo! Dude! I said give it to me, why did you drop it?

5 year old: I-can’t-believe-my-eyes!

Me: hahaha, what do you mean? (ok, I laughed MUCH more than that!)

5 year old: I LOVE that house! I am going to buy it!

When we move in, y’all will come visit, ‘k?

Life sucks and then you die

Well, not exactly, but sometimes it kinda feels like that.

Actually, I never think like that, I mean, life does tend to suck, but I am more of a “make lemonade” kind of person, so I like to concentrate on what’s good about life, you know, like it’s the first day of spring! Yey! People, I LOVE spring, I cannot explain how much I love spring… and although we have fresh snow on the ground, and it does not feel particularly “springy” at the moment, I have hope that it will be here soon!!

I really think that spring is about new beginnings, fresh starts, and loving life. The trickling of water on the ground, the birds coming back, the tiny little leaves starting to grow, the smell of the air, it’s truly an amazing and inspiring time.

A few weeks ago I started to write in a journal again, a real one, with pages and everything! When I went to the store to buy it, I saw one with a quote on it… “life is not about finding yourself, life is about creating yourself”... and I just fell in love with that saying. I mean, surely our past can define who we are, but it does not have to control us. Most of the time, we just need some goals for ourselves, and so when life serves us crap, at least we won’t lose focus of the “us” we’re trying to create.

When “cute” is just not descriptive enough

I was sitting with my 2 year old feeding him yogurt, and when it was finished, he asked for the spoon and the empty-ish container, and once I slowly relinquished it to him, he splattered me with some of the yogurt remains… I exclaimed, I think “what are you doing, give me that!”, and went to the kitchen to wash the stuff off my face…

Then, as I was wiping my face, he came into the kitchen and said “mad…me?”

Now, lemme hear an “awwww”...
