Accomplishments

Friends, I have a confession to make, that sort of makes me feel like a complete hypocrite, I have been really unmotivated and depressed lately, and I’ve spent the past 3 days wanting to do nothing but sleep, I think because sleeping means that I can escape reality. I’m so depressed that I feel depressed about being depressed… does that even make sense? Sorry, sorry for anyone who’s emails I haven’t answered, (at this moment, I have 118 unread, and 82 ‘starred’ for follow up) I am in a “funk” it would seem.

I met a teacher tonight (if you’re visiting, hi!) and she said that I seem like a fun person, and I thought, “ok, so maybe I am not that depressed”. Anyways, I need to get myself back to being a normal functioning person, because seriously, my kids can’t take care of themselves, and I am certain we can’t live on cheesecake for too much longer!

My free WordPress theme, sakeena, made it onto Smashing Magazine’s 100 Excellent Free WordPress Themes list! Smashing Magazine is a wonderful resource and their lists are always really well thought out and impressive, so I am, naturally, very excited and honored. Yay! Thank you Smashing Magazine! (And Irene and Baraka, who allowed me to use their amazing photos) And, just for good measure, my Textpattern theme, Life, that I entered into a competition and sadly did not place, has however, been downloaded more times than any of the other themes, including the winners! People’s choice is always the coolest position in my opinion. wink

In other exciting news, I am writing a parenting column in a Caribbean magazine, called Caribbean Belle, you can subscribe from their website if you’re interested.

I am amazed and humbled that people enjoy my work, I have much to be grateful for, and I am very grateful, I just can’t seem to motivate myself to do anything but sleep! Ideas?

What would you say to the rest of the world

I would say “when I smile with you, I am not secretly thinking “infidel”, I am actually saying a tiny prayer that your needs are fulfilled and that your heart finds what it’s seeking”...

Celebrating life’s little mercies

Occasionally I feel completely suffocated by life, overwhelmed by responsibilities and decisions, confused by the apparent lack of choices, just completely saddened by it’s reality, but it’s also at those darkest times that I have the most awesome moments of peace.

I stepped out of the house into the perfect night, very slight drizzle, light breeze, the sound of melting snow trickling down; if I closed my eyes, I could imagine I was by an ocean, I could instantly feel happiness. It’s funny how life can serve you the very thing, that you didn’t know you needed, to mend your soul, at the exact moment that you needed it.

I worked out with the perky twins again, but this time they made me smile, and no, not in a “I used to be 100lbs and not jiggly at one time too, you just wait until you have 3 kids!” kind of way, but I wished for them the best that life has to offer.

Now, I am going to have crackers and Camembert, and cheesecake for dinner… because I can!

Peek in Monday & having hakka

There are many advantages to having sisters, the main one being that I rarely ever have to entertain my own kids when they are around, especially, for example, when we’re waiting for food to arrive at the table!

(In honour of Cake’s Peek in Monday)

We had hakka food (we didn’t actually go to Federick’s as in the linked article, but it’s the same type of food, and I am not a fan of Federicks anyways), which is pretty much an Indian/Chinese style, and I love, love, love Chili Beef!
