Love Thursday & daddy's boys

These 2 actually prefer to be with him!
Ahhh… a toddler and his potty... what can I say… I give up!
Sadly, now he asks to go to the toilet when he feels like he needs a new toy. And I, in turn, will only actively encourage him to use the toilet when I am not busy! He will be back in diapersuntil he is 3, and then I will try again… daycare is obviously not happening… I blame myself really… I mean, the 4 year old almost had him potty trained... too bad he had to leave me in charge while he was at school!

Tonight my husband and I had a really quick trip to the grocery store together, as my mom was looking after the kids… I know what you’re thinking… we have a chance to go out together and we choose the grocery store! But, my friends, remember this, it requires me to have groceries!
Anyways, my husband decided that he would start choosing ingredients for me to cook dishes that he wanted… ummm, hello? He was the one that called it a crazy idea!
So, there we were, walking along the vegetable aisle, he with his beard, me with my headscarf, white guy next to us, and I said “I ain’t cooking nothin’ special for you, you know” only to look up and see our aisle neighbor looking at us in complete amazement!
Yesterday, the last day of spring break here in Ontario, my husband decided that he now needed to start a ‘project’ with the kids! So off we went to Toys”R”Us with all 3 of them…
My husband and his 2 boys spent half hour in the lego section while the baby and I browsed the rest of the store. I bought some lovely and inexpensive kiddy watering cans, in preparation for summer of course, you know… if you buy it, it will come… and all that. ![]()
My dear husband thought that it would be great fun to build something, like this Ferrari F430 Challengewith his 2 and 4 year olds! Clearly, he thought that the 670 tiny pieces would not be an issue!
Being the sensible and practical parent, I proceeded to discourage this purchase, but of course the 4 year old started crying in the middle of the store! In ‘brilliant mother’ mode, I convinced him that this lovely $9.99 modelcan ‘crash and everything’! And it’s blue! Wow! Just make it sound more exciting and hard to resist, and the kid will surely be convinced!
We left with 2 happy boys, 2 crashing racer Lego sets,a contented baby, a smarter dad, and a smug mom!
Last night and this morning, my husband and the boys spent their time building their Legos, it was great bonding for them. I know that the recommended ages for the toys were 7 to 12, but they really had a great time doing it with their father, and he with them, especially since he loves Legos and cars! (pictures here)
I think that the trick to spending enjoyable, quality time together is finding an activity that both parent and kid enjoys. My kids just happen to be turning into the ‘stereotyped’ boys… loving cars, trucks, and anything with an engine… I wonder what it would be like if we had a girl?
