On people

by shaz on Tuesday, December 16, 2008 at 03:47 AM
read more about: life.

I always feel like the true treasures of this world is the people, humanity, the kindness of strangers, the comfort of loved ones.

One of the reasons that I love photography so much is because of the way it can move us, bridge gaps, help us empathize, understand, and accept. I thought Smashing Magazine’s street photography was a wonderful example of the beauty of people and diversity. I especially loved the little girl and the look on her face. Most of the times I notice people’s eyes, or more accurately, the look in their eyes – eyes really are the windows to the soul, I think it’s amazing how much can be learned about a person just by observing them.

Anyway, go check it out!

Giveaway Monday &the ratings

read more about: contests. born in trinidad.

Remember when I talked about people rating my dishes? Well, tonight the person that left me that particular note about my “potential” decided to make Trinidadian pepper sauce (not exactly as in this recipe, but anyway).

He brings over a bottle, calls me down to taste it, then waits with bated breath for my reaction.

Him: So? What do you think?

Me: Yeah, it’s good.

Him: So, what rating would you give it?

Me: Amm, 10.

Him (beaming): Wow! That’s so great!

Me: Huh. I wouldn’t feel that great if I were you, I am a very generous person. I give 10s very easily, unlike some people, who insists that they can never give me a 10.

Him (mockingly): Whatever!

Then people, because I love pepper and it did taste damn good, and I am sort of crazy, and because the closest thing to me was an apple, I sliced it up and downed a whole lot of pepper sauce and apple!

Ok, on to the giveaway – a chance to win a Wrapped & Ready DVD!

For those of you who were deeply, and I do mean deeply concerned about the condition of my hair – I washed it last night, so you may rest easy now, especially those of you who might have been wondering if I was aware that things could start living in there. Thanks!

My life in points #1112

1) I am sure that I have some kind of infection – ears, nose, throat, lung – something, and no, it’s not because I am a self-confessed hypochondriac. Actually, it’s feeling a lot like a sinus infection, which, if you remember, was the bane of my existence in summer. Anyway. Joy.

2) So, 2 of my kids have ear infections, and 2 suffer from cold-induced asthma, the same 2. Guess which 2! If you guessed the first and the last, you would be right, because somehow the middle child must always feel left out – even when it’s a good thing! He said to us today that when the two gets something and one is left out, it’s unfair. Heartbreaking, even if he was talking about antibiotics.

3) I showed up at work today for the first time in about 12 days or so, and for only 2 hours. Everyone was somewhat stunned to see me actually make an appearance, and commented that I sounded really sick, and requested that I stay far away. I was glad to be at work, but just the journey to get there completely exhausted me. Now I am ready for bed and its 6pm – welcome to my life.

4) As I write this, my kids are taking turns pulling down their pants and showing each other their butts. I am not entirely sure why they think this is the most hilarious thing ever.

5) It is cold. COLD. Let me stress, IT.IS.COLD. This morning, as my sister and I were scraping ice off our cars, we pondered why it was that we were living here. We didn’t really come up with a good reason. Except that, well, Canada, besides the coldness, is a pretty awesome place to live. In winter though, I just can’t make myself like it, sadly.

6) I haven’t washed my hair in about 2 weeks. I thought I would share that with you, cuz, well, I don’t know. It’s making me nuts, and I wanted 6 points, it just seemed like a natural fit.
