Of all my kids, my favourite is…
Can you really admit which is your favourite kid?
It’s like when I ask my eldest son who he likes best, mummy or daddy… his answer is always the same… mummy AND daddy! Even at his age, kids can figure out that they love both their mom and dad but for different things and in different ways.
My eldest son amazes me with his words and his thoughts, he says the sweetest things to me, and shows so much love… my husband and my mom both say he is my favourite. He is my companion… As the only one who can carry on a conversation with me, I truly enjoy his company. He is a mama’s boy, but at the same time he makes me totally nuts when he talks back to me, does not listen, and blatantly ignores me!
My youngest son, with the innocence that only a newborn can have, fills up my heart with his smile… When he looks at me, it’s like I am the love of his life! It’s always so special when they are experiencing everything for the first time and it’s like you experience it for the first time too with them. I say that he is my favourite… that’s just because he can’t talk back to me… yet! But really, isn’t it all worth it when you have that baby sleeping on your chest!
My second son… oh my second son! He is the one who is most like me… He has all of my best traits! He certainly is his daddy’s boy. But he is most special to me I think, just looking at him makes me want to smile. He is the most thoughtful and loving to both us and his brothers. When he says “mummy” it could just melt your heart. The mix of his character and his age just makes him so amusing… I never have a dull moment! Even if I use the words “no” and “don’t” more than anyone else in history I think, I wouldn’t trade him!
And so, do I have a favourite… yes at times…
When you’re a child its hard to understand the love of a parent… most of the time I thought that they loved my siblings more, and my siblings thought they loved me more… But only as a parent I came to realize that the love for kids are equal… there is no child that I love more than the other, but there are moments when we prefer the company of one to the other… and I don’t think that is a bad thing… I think the one on one time with a kid is totally amazing for both us and them.
But of course… I do love when they are all asleep!!

So summer is around the corner… some days we need the air conditioning, some days we need the heat… thus is the nature of our great Canadian weather!
In the house, its gets to 28 degrees during the day, and down to about 14 degrees in the night, so I usually put the air conditioning on in the day and the heat on in the night. So last night, I think it was about a million degrees in the house… but of course we were too sleepy to go downstairs and switch to air conditioning! Or to even open a window for that matter!
What do kids do when its too hot??
They do NOT sleep!
10PM – Put newborn to bed
10:30PM – Put kids to bed
11:00PM – Put kids to bed
11:20PM – Put kids to bed
3AM – Newborn is up, I fed him and put him back
3:30AM – Preschooler is in my bed
4:00AM – Sqeezed between hubby and kid… a million degrees in the bed
5:00AM – Newborn is up again… now in our bed
6:00AM – Toddler is running into our room… and our bed
6:10AM – Makes hubby put preschooler back in his bed… hubby also disappears
6:20AM – I get up for a bit
6:30AM – Preschooler back in our bed… and so is hubby! But the newborn is in his crib
6:45AM – Hubby getting ready for work, kids drinking milk
7:10AM – Hubby leaving… I try to convince the kids to sleep some more
7:20AM – Newborn crying
7:25AM – Demanding kids to go to their own room to continue their LOUD and OBNOXIOUS behaviour
7:30AM – Try to ignore the 2 monkey, and get some more sleep with the newborn
7:32AM – Whatever!
So here we are, they only slept for about 6 and a half hours, as opposed to the usual 10! I just can’t wait for the rest of the day!

I think I need some advice with this latest problem! The snake this has gotten worse… he does not want to use the toilet by himself… he needs us to go with him, and if we can’t, he starts to cry… actually scream! And he says that he is afraid of the snakes in there.
I am really stumped on how to deal with this one… I try to assure him that there are no snakes in the house, and that we are safe, but it really does not seem to be helping.

The “ssssssss” is still following him around the house!
Yesterday, he was sitting on the toilet when the 2 year old made a noise that maybe sounded like a “sssssssssss”… He jumped off the bowl, asking me what that sound was… then he tripped over his stool and fell into the toilet! (Well, just his hand, but still… )
At least its not monsters!

Grandma… my mom… usually baby-sits a lot for me… which is great… except for the influence on my kids…
My eldest son came running downstairs yesterday in total and complete fear… because apparently a snake was chasing him! He told us that he heard the “ssssssssss” and it followed him downstairs to the toilet, then the “ssssssssss” followed him upstairs…
Hmmmmmmmmm
My mom, who is an excellent caregiver to my kids… has a few irrational fears… one is of thunder, one is of small spaces, and yes, one is of snakes!! She was spending time alone with the preschooler when they encountered something that looked like a snake in the backyard…
This morning, he woke up and came running into our room… because he heard the “sssssssssss”! He was afraid to use the bathroom because the snake was in there… And now, he came running into the room asking me if I was making a “ssssssssssss” noise! Well, I was sniffling…
So, this should be documented I think… As people do not generally remember how they got their phobia. I certainly cannot recall how I got a fear of heights!
I am going to hope that this goes away… I don’t mind that he has a fear of snakes, as that is not necessarily irrational… but having a “ssssssssss” follow you everywhere you go… that might be a little tough for him!
At least the fear of small spaces did not rub off on him… otherwise giving them their own room might not be working out so well!
